Hopkins graduated from Phillipsburg High School and completed an Associates in Applied Science degree in Radiography at Northampton Community College, his obituary says.
Hopkins worked as a radiology technician at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury, PA and lived in Clinton at the time of his death, his memorial says.
More than $3,100 had been raised as of Thursday morning on a GoFundMe for Hopkins’ funeral expenses.
“John was loved by many in the community including his family,” the fundraiser says. “John was a very important person in my life as he was in many of his friends and families.”
Hopkins is survived by his mother, Margaret E. (Vivian) Shafer Hopkins Stone and her husband, Howard Stone; his former wife Lori Rivera and their daughter, Leah of Easton; his brothers, Allen Shafer and wife Jenna and Jason Shafer; as well as two nephews, five step-daughters and several other extended family members and close friends.
His memorial will be planned at a future date.
